How do I take payments with my Whop account?
Make an API key in Whop, open Integrations → Whop, paste the key, tick Also take payments with Whop and click Connect. Payment links you send from NexaCloser are then charged through your Whop account, and your customer pays on a NexaCloser page without going to Whop.
- Plans:
- Business, Agency
- Who can do this:
- Owner, Admin
Before you start
- You need a Whop business account that can take payments. Whop asks for your business details and a bank account before it pays you out.
- Make an API key in Whop. Open your Whop dashboard, go to Developer, create a company API key and select all permissions. The ready-made Admin role misses two that NexaCloser needs: webhooks and balance.
Connect Whop and turn on payments
- Open Integrations and click the Whop card.
- Click Connect Whop.
- Paste the key into Whop company API key.
- Tick Also take payments with Whop.
- Click Connect.
If Whop is already connected, do the same steps again with the same key and tick the box.
Send a payment link
- From a contact: open the contact, click Charge, enter the Amount and Description, and click Send Payment Link.
- From a conversation: in the message box, open Request payment, fill in the amount, and click Create Payment Link.
Your customer opens the link and pays on a NexaCloser page with your business name and the amount. Whop shows only the email and card fields inside it. The customer never goes to Whop.
What happens after the customer pays
- The money goes to your Whop account.
- The payment shows as paid in Payments.
- The customer is added to (or matched in) Contacts, gets the tag
whop-activeand a tag that starts withwhop:followed by the product name, and a won deal is added. Tags start your automations — see Create your first automation.
Refunds
Open Payments, find the payment and click Refund. The money goes back through Whop. The contact gets the tag whop-refunded, or whop-partial-refund when only part of the payment is refunded.
Good to know
- VAT is inside the price. The amount you type in the link is the amount the customer pays.
- Whop's fees apply, from your Whop account. Whop may also collect and pay the sales tax or VAT itself. Check your tax settings in Whop with your accountant.
- Payment links only. Funnels, course checkouts and online booking keep using your Stripe or PayPal connection.
- No saved cards. One-click upsells do not work with Whop.
What can go wrong
- Whop rejected this API key — check it and its permissions The key is wrong or was deleted. Make a new key with all permissions.
- The key works, but Whop did not let us add the webhook — give the key the webhooks permission Make a new key with all permissions and connect again.
- Whop is connected, but payments could not be turned on. Try connecting again. Connect again with the same key and the box ticked.
- The customer's card is declined. The message shows on the payment page and nothing is charged. The customer can try another card.
- The payment page shows an error. Whop is not connected with payments turned on, or the key was deleted in Whop. Connect again.
